“Baroque for Breakfast” is an online series of talks held via Zoom about topics of interest to baroque music lovers. The idea was formed during the pandemic as a way of connecting with our audiences when live concerts were not possible. We soon found that people enjoyed learning about baroque music over their morning coffee (or lunch, or dinner depending on what part of the world they were in!). Our past presentations are available to view on our YouTube channel.
This year we will be holding three talks:
Saturday, March 25 @ 10:00 am PDT
Vicki St. Pierre, Dean of Arts and Associate Professor of Voice at Mount Allison University will present ORNAMENTATION. This talk will discuss the basics of ornamentation and will be highly relevant to vocalists and instrumentalists alike.
Saturday, April 1 @ 10:00 am PDT
Virginia Acuna, Assistant Professor of Music History and Musicology at the University of Victoria will present WITCHCRAFT ON STAGE IN EARLY MODERN SPAIN. Dr. Acuna is a specialist in Spanish baroque opera – you don’t want to miss this opportunity to hear about this fascinating topic!
Saturday, April 15 @ 10:00 am PDT
Double Bass & Viola Da Gamba player Anne Duranceau will discuss STRING INSTRUMENTS IN THE RENAISSANCE AND BAROQUE PERIODS.
