Ensemble Il Postiglione

Wednesday, August 19 @7:30 pm

Fulford Hall

Ensemble Il Postiglione takes its name from the postiglione – the stagecoach rider who signalled each arrival with a bright octave leap on the post horn, a gesture that Baroque composers loved to echo in their music. That same spirited interval appears in Telemann's Il Postiglione Sonata, a nod to the lively, traveling-world energy that inspires the ensemble's identity.

Founded in Europe by harpsichordist Simone Pierini and recorder/traverso virtuoso Romeo Ciuffa, the ensemble has since performed across the globe. For this concert, they are joined by violinists Enrique Gómez‑Cabrero Fernández and Paul Luchkow, and soprano Anne Grimm.  They will be performing on exquisite 17th‑century period instruments, including a single‑register harpsichord crafted by Fabrizio Acanfora in Barcelona.  These world-class musicians have come together on Salt Spring to participate in Salt Spring Baroque's opera Acis and Galatea, and we are thrilled to have them perform this concert while they are here.

Works will include Vivaldi's Recorder concerto in A minor, Telemann's Gulliver suite, Corrette's Sonata for Harpsichord and violin and Bach's Cantata – BWV 202, Wenn die Frühlingslüfte featuring soprano Anne Grimm.  Join us as these Baroque treasures come alive through the intimate, expressive interplay of harpsichord, violin, recorder and voice.
