Salt Spring Baroque welcomes St. Barnabas Scholars Gwen Jamieson (soprano), Anna van der Hooft (soprano), and Jan van der Hooft (tenor).  They will be joined by Martin Bonham (viola da gamba) and Marco Vitale (spinet-virginal) in a performance of François Couperin’s – Leçons de ténèbres pour le mercredi saint. The Leçons de ténèbres pour le mercredi saint (“Tenebrae Readings for Holy Wednesday”) are a series of three vocal pieces composed by François Couperin for the liturgies of Holy Week, 1714, at the Abbaye royale de Longchamp. Couperin’s Leçons are intensely personal, with an intensity and power rarely found in baroque sacred music.
